When the global COVID-19 pandemic struck, the Marshall Islands was one of the first Pacific nations to lock down its borders.
Now, three years later, the Marshalls remains one of the few Pacific
countries still closed to visitors, with incoming travelers required to
undergo 10 days of quarantine.
Secretary Niedenthall said the outbreak was “spreading like wildfire” — in fact,
he himself tested positive to COVID the same day as the first cases was
detected. He was currently recovering in home isolation.
“We think the virus has been here had been here for several days before we
discovered it even though we do random testing,” he said.
“What we’re concerned about is that whole last week, there were all kinds of
boats and planes going to these outer islands and we are getting reports

We
arrived last night at Savusavu, great service by Coprashed to come out
at midnight with their dingy to meet as at the entrance of the creek and
guide us in, we had an easy ride from Pago Pago, smooth check-in
process today, they did look into our fridge, garbage and select food
lockers, but they did not take anything from us (that’s incl sausage,
bacon, cheese, milk, a basil plant, fruit, vegetables, sourdough), just
had to “promise” to consume everything on bord. They did not look at our
track. We had not to pay any customs duty for alcohol (and we still
have a “few” liters).
Spent the arrival night on anchor, moved to a berth at the marina dock today
I don’t think there is a „Provisioning Excellence“ award, but this would
be our entry: our 50 US cents / can Balboa beer purchased in Panama in
January brought us all the way to Fiji, the very last two cans were our
arrival beers today at Coprashed – and off we go to buy reasonably
priced beer again 😃

For rigging, we used Fenua rigging who came recommended to us by Florian on Ibex. Emile is the proprietor and speaks reasonable English, Jerome is his right hand man and is completely fluent as his mother is Scottish. They did
excellent work for us and showed true expertise and knowledge in a field
that has more than it’s fair share of charlatans. He’s not the cheapest
but he is the best. He is also very busy so you have to work to his
schedule not your own, but I would have no hesitation in recommending
him or using him again myself.

We were lifted at Technimarine for some work on our centreboard. It is a
professionally run, big yard that is able to do everything from a simple
bottom job to building large fishing boats in aluminium from scratch.
